5:07p Girl, Interrupted Actress Brittany Murphy Dead at 32: Additional Discussion Since the first post is above 6,000 comments, we decided to have a second post for additional, captcha-free discussion. Relevant updates will also be posted here. Here's what we know: Brittany Murphy was pronounced dead this morning on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Murphy reportedly suffered full cardiac arrest, causing her death. TMZ was the first to report her death. Murphy was reportedly found unconscious in the shower by her mother, Sharon, at about 8:00 AM PT. TMZ reports that the LAPD has launched an investigation into Murphy's death. Murphy's rep issued the following statement: "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. When asked to share her thoughts on Young Money’s first lady, the Brooklyn rapstress gave kudos to Nicki before pointing to a glaring difference in their images and content. “Nicki Minaj is a talented rapper,” Lil Mama said. “She’s out there, she’s doing her. What she represents, I don’t represent and she’s doing something different, that’s her lane. 7:44p Frankie Boyle lays into celebrity memoirs as his own is a surprise hit Comedian Frankie Boyle berates publishers for producing 'crap' celebrity memoirs. Meanwhile his own is a bestseller Rebecca Adlington, Kerry Katona, Susan Boyle and the Queen can all breathe sighs of relief. Frankie Boyle (no relation to Susan) has a new target: publishers. The Glaswegian comedian has attacked them for creating a degraded books market teeming with celebrity memoirs – which may seem a bit rich given that he's just written one of his own. "I never really followed publishing until I wrote this book," said Boyle over coffee in the bar of his posh hotel in Covent Garden, "but what strikes me is there aren't many publishers you'd confuse with leading philosophical thinkers of the day. "Right now if you read the Bookseller there are publishers moaning about how terrible celebrity biographies now are. How they're all badly written and say nothing. It's a fair point, but don't they realise that they're responsible for creating this toxic gene? They're the ones who have been putting out any old crap – and now they're complaining? "Maybe if they came up with better ideas for books or they told some celebrities who want to write their memoirs to fuck off now and again, I might have more respect for their argument." 7:23p Rage Against the Machine take Christmas No.1 slot Rock band Rage Against the Machine ended Simon Cowell’s four year domination of the Christmas charts tonight after a hugely popular Facebook campaign helped the Los Angeles nu-metallers snatch the Christmas number one slot from X-factor’s Joe McEdlerry. More than half a million people downloaded the band’s famously anti-authoritarian and expletive laden track “Killing in the Name” in what was seen as a broad protest against the increasing influence of manufactured pop music. It is the first time a non-X-Factor song has made it to Christmas number one for four years and represents a major snub to the show’s creator Cowell who angrily described the campaign to him another number one slot as “very Scrooge”. 12:50p Brittany Murphy Dies Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ. She was 32. A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department tells TMZ. We're told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her time of death was listed as 10:04 AM. Murphy starred in such films as "Clueless," "8 Mile," and "Don't Say a Word." Murphy was reportedly fired from last film, "The Caller," after reports she was problematic on set. 9:21a Katherine Heigl saves more Chihuahuas On December 2nd,2009, 25 Chihuahuas rescued from Los Angeles animal shelters boarded an American Airlines Flight and quickly found new homes in New Hampshire. The maiden flight program was so successful that a second batch of 43 Chihuahuas are now ready to receive their boarding pass to the New England State, once again thanks to Katherine's generosity. Laurel Kinder, founded the Project Flying Chihuahuas program and successfully obtained sufficient funding to fly a second batch of the cute little dogs for a one way journey to a New Hampshire Humane Society where they will find warm, loving homes. "My passion has always been focused on finding a solution to the thousands of Chihuahuas that get funneled into LA shelters," stated Ms. Kinder, a rescuer for more than 15 years. "We are grateful to actress Katherine Heigl for her compassionate donation to fund their flight and change their plight. We hope other charitable foundations will step forward to help support this humane endeavor." Katherine has funded the flight of all 68 pups via her non-profit animal welfare organization, The Jason Heigl Foundation, which she founded with her mother Nancy in memory of her brother Jason who was killed in a car accident in 1986.
